Scrubs help circulation and are a wonderful way to invigorate your skin. According to Carol Endler Sterbenz the abrasive action of the salt will remove dead skin cells and open pores, allowing them to breathe. In beauty salons the word "Scrub" is used to describe a cleansing or exfoliating the skin. In Asian traditions, scrubbing the skin is common, especially among women. A vigorous scrub not only softens, stimulates and cleans the skin but also makes it look lighter.

Prior to modern soaps and cleansing agents, women would use sandalwood powder, blends of local herbs and plants as natural astringents.

Under the guidance of medical and holistic practitioners, natural and indigenous ingredients have been combined, following time-honoured recipes, from the Indonesian archipelago to produce what is known as Esens Scrubs. The effects and benefits of the Esens Scrubs vary:

Sea Salts or garam laut - natural antiseptic, stimulating, exfoliating
Lavender Scrub or scrub bunga - relaxing lavender scent for cleansing
Herbal Scrub or rempah - cooling and calming to inflammed skin
Spice Scrub or boreh - warming, stimulating, good for blood circulation
Javanese Scrub or lulur - exotic, romantic, skin beautifying

To use, scoop out a tablespoon or two and begin to massage it onto your skin while in the shower or bath. Work in a circular motion, starting with your extremities and toward your heart. Leave the scrub on your skin for 5 to 20 minutes, and then rinse off with cool water.

1/2 cup of sweet almond oil
1/2 tsp. tree tea oil
1/2 tsp. eucalyptus oil
