Ackerman Family Vineyards  
Ackerman Family VineyardsThe Ackerman’s Napa story started with their wedding in April 1989 when they were married at Auberge du Soliel in Rutherford. As they looked out over the beautiful, romantic vineyard countryside, they vowed that, someday, they would live in the Napa Valley. That day came in 1994 when Bob was looking to purchase a horse for Lauren, an avid rider. It just so happened that the horse he found was located on a beautiful 16-acre vineyard property in the eastern hills of Napa that was also for sale. Karma being what it is, the Ackerman’s bought the house and vineyard and were given the horse as part of the deal – their new life in the Napa Valley became a reality.

Adastra Wines  
Adastra WinesThe name Adastra is taken from the Latin saying per aspera ad astra, "through striving to the stars." Adastra strives to produce intense, complex wines that capture the essence of Adastra Vineyards, a unique combination of fog, soil, clones and stars on twenty acres in the Napa Carneros. Family-owned, Adastra is run by Chris Thorpe and son-in-law Edwin Richards. Pam Starr has been Adastra's winegrowing consultant since 1997.

Amicus Cellars  
Amicus CellarsAmici is, at its core, a story about friends. In 1991, a group of friends with a passion for good wine crushed a few tons of grapes in the Napa Valley for our personal cellars. The resulting wines received such outstanding accolades that we started producing wine the very next year to share with the public. We chose to name the wine, appropriately, Amici (“friends” in Italian).

Ken continues to expand his range of experience as a consulting winemaker for wineries in California and in Chile.

Andretti Winery  
Andretti WineryAndretti Winery was established in 1996 and takes its inspiration from the distinguished career of its namesake and founder, Mario Andretti, widely regarded as the greatest race car driver of all time. When Mario retired after nearly five decades of competition, a commemorative wine was produced in his honor in 1994. That event sparked an interest in owning a winery. To accomplish this goal he teamed up with his former associate, Joseph E. Antonini, who as President, Chairman and CEO of Kmart, was one of Mario's major sponsors. Together they formed Andretti Wine Group (AWG Limited), a publicly traded stock company, to acquire property and build Andretti Winery, with Joe serving as Chairman and Mario as Vice Chairman.

Artesa  
Artesa WineryArtesa is Napa's newest, most exciting winery. Our architecturally-acclaimed facility opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991, dedicated solely to méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. But in 1997, with the arrival of a world-class winemaker and a $10 million conversion, the winery shifted focus dramatically. Artesa was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999.

Black Stallion Winery  
Black Stallion WineryLocated on the grounds of a historic equestrian center, Black Stallion Winery is the latest addition to the distinguished collection of wineries in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Each of the varietals we produce is handcrafted and carefully blended from small vineyard lots. Each lot is fermented and aged separately in our cellar until just prior to bottling when we carefully blend these lots together to achieve wines of balance with layers of complex flavors. Delectus Winery  
Delectus WineryGerhard and Linda launched Delectus Winery in 1995 with a focus on making wines representing the terroir of each vineyard. It was during their first overseas trip together that Linda and Gerhard saw Michelangelo's David, which provided the initial spark of inspiration for starting their own winery based on single-minded, uncompromising pursuit of an ultimate ideal. For that reason, a sketch of David appears on the Delectus label.

Domaine Carneros  
Domaine CarnerosDomaine Carneros in the heart of Carneros, is the California expression of the tradition and excellence of its founder, Champagne Taittinger. Established in 1987, Domaine Carneros is considered a regional landmark. Exquisite views of endless vineyard-covered hills are the perfect setting to savor our wines. The main château and terrace are open 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily.  The last service of the day is at 5:45 p.m.  We are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. All of our wines bear the Carneros Appellation, with 95% of our fruit coming from estate vineyards. In April 2008, we received organic certification of all Estate vineyards by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

Elyse Wine CellarsWhat will you find in a bottle of Elyse or Jacob Franklin wine? I make wines that I want to sit down and enjoy – juicy, rich, voluptuous wines. I like a little oak, but I don’t want it to be overpowering – I want to taste the fruit. I love wines that pair well with food. A meal without wine is eating; a meal with wine is dining – it’s a conversation, an event. It’s what wine is about. When I make a wine, my tastes and techniques will influence the process, but what’s most important is the fruit. The fruit dictates what the wine will be. We’re fortunate to work with an amazing group of growers and vineyards, whose fruit keeps taking us to wonderful places. We started out making Zinfandel, then expanded into Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. No doubt those will continue to be the focus of our winemaking, but now we’ve made a tiny quantity of Chardonnay, and soon we’ll be releasing our first Pinot Noir. What wines we make after that will depend on the fruit that’s available, because I just can’t say no to wonderful fruit.

Hendry  
HendryEach of the 50 blocks at the ranch is a product of our efforts to discover the vineyard's full potential. To us, each block is an experiment and results are obtained very slowly. With our approach to farming, it takes about 7 years for root systems and canopies to reach full development and several more to understand how the wine will progress. As a result, it often takes 10 years to discover if our choice of clone, root, and varietal was appropriate for a given site. Our blocks will continue to change as we learn and try new things, and because they reflect the state of our vineyard, our wines will change as well. Expressing the individuality of these blocks in the wines made from them is educational for us and we hope it is for you too.

Jarvis Winery  
Jarvis WineryThe Jarvis winemaking facility is totally contained within 45,000 square feet of cave tunneled into the scenic Vacas Mountains four miles east of the town of Napa. It is not only a visual masterpiece, but a technical masterpiece as well. The underlying principle behind the Jarvis cave construction is that a parabolic shaped tunnel is inherently stable, so the cave tunnels and chambers are in the shape of a true parabola. Throughout the cave’s design and fixtures you will find many arches, subtly echoing its parabolic structure. With the help of Jim Gangwer and other artisans, the cast bronze doors, brass wall sconces, arched alcoves, and fiber optic chandeliers add to the mystique and beauty of the cave. William Jarvis has designed and created a unique cave winery which functions to produce ultra-premium wine, but which in form alone creates an incredibly beautiful atmosphere in which to enjoy the very wine it produces.

Laird Family Estate

The stewardship of these vineyards began nearly twenty-five years ago when many pioneer farmers passed on critical knowledge and techniques to Ken Laird and later to son Justin, all in the spirit of kindness and helping hands. Several of these farmers, like Guillermo “Willie” Medina, were there in the beginning and continue to play core roles within our vineyard operations. Today Justin oversees nearly 2000 prime vineyard acres for Bayview Vineyards, the Laird’s vineyard management company. While Bayview Vineyards is small and completely family run, it serves over 35 ultra premium wineries including our own family label.

Madonna Estate  
Madonna EstateMadonna Estate wines have been handcrafted by the Bartolucci family, Napa Valley winegrowers and winemakers for more than eighty years. They are created from 100 percent organically grown grapes, which are dry farmed on the Estate Vineyard. Through great skill, elegance and care, Madonna Estate wines are styled to capture the best of the vintage, the vineyard, and the variety. In addition to organic farming, Andrea believes dry farming is the best method to ensure maximum quality and grape flavor. Using the dry farming method the newly planted vines are irrigated only until they create an extensive root system. After the roots become established, all irrigation lines are removed and the vines are left to fend for themselves.

Quixote WineryWe've spent decades working against the conventional wisdom of the Napa Valley. When Cabernet Sauvignon dominated the California wine industry, we passionately supported Petite Syrah. We still do. But a little cabernet is nice, too. We want to make good wine, not a good name. If our wine doesn't speak for itself, no signature will make it any better. Ours is a family-owned winery. As you can see, given the number of owners and the size of our production, we have a strictly enforced allocation system to ensure that customers can have a few bottles of Panza and Quixote to enjoy. Unlike many winemakers, Monticelli doesn't have concerns about leaving a “wine widow” at home. His wife Anna, whom he met at Davis , is the winemaker for Bryant Family Winery. “Wine governs our lives,” says Mario.

Reynolds Family Winery  
Reynolds Family WineryMy interest in wine started when I was living in Germany as a young teenager. Wine was always part of our daily life and my father often took the whole family on wine tasting trips through Europe. At the time we’d curse him as we spent our day throwing rocks into a pond while he tasted. Now, of course, I’m grateful to him for sharing his passion and infecting me with his enthusiasm. My father and I dreamt of building a winery together and our vision became reality when my wife, Suzie, and I traded my dental practice for the life of wine growers in 1994. I’d like to say that we moved in and started making wine on day one. But the truth is the property was a 100-year old chicken ranch that needed lots of love but was full of potential. It took us over a year to clean up and begin renovations. I acted as general contractor, and built everything from the fences to the tasting room. Apart from having to live in a friend’s garage for six months, we can now say it was a labor of love.

Rocca Family Vineyards  
Rocca Family VineyardsThe land gently slopes westward towards the Napa River. The soils are a well-drained melange of alluvial, sedimentary and volcanic soils. Just to the north, a knoll that was formed as a terminal moraine in Napa Valley’s ancient glacial past towers above the vineyard. The vineyard is poised between the warmer upvalley climes and the cooling maritime influence of the San Francisco Bay to the south, so temperatures during the long growing season are warm enough to produce perfectly ripe and flavorful fruit, and cool enough to ensure finesse and balance. Our second vineyard, purchased in 2000, the Hearthstone Vineyard, (named for the landmark stone chimney at the top of the hill, last remnant of a former homestead) is a nine-acre parcel in the Coombsville area of Napa. The property is a southeast-facing hillside with shallow, rocky and well-drained soil.

Saintsbury  
SaintsburyNow at 60,000 cases, Saintsbury remains at the forefront of the Pinot Noir revolution in California and the constant evolution in Carneros winemaking. Dick and Dave continue to inch their way out the limb that they ventured onto in the early days. However, now it is a place from which they can continue to innovate yet also peer down from to survey a part of the California wine industry they helped create and inspire.

Selene Wines  
Selene WinesThe Selene name comes from Greek mythology. There are three goddesses associated with the moon in this mythology; Artemis, the maiden goddess of the waxing moon, Selene, the mother goddess of the full moon, and Hecate, the wise crone goddess of the waning moon. The moon carries a lot of meaning and symbolism for me, not the least of which is following its phases. Besides, like my label depicts, there are few sights more beautiful in Napa Valley than the moonrise over hillside vineyards

Ray, born in San Francisco, California, moved to Vancouver, Canada where the Signorello family continues to maintain a home. Ray's father, Ray Sr., initiated the vineyard project during the mid 1970's by purchasing the 100-acre estate located on the Silverado Trail in the beautiful Napa Valley. From the very beginning, the Shahabis made the gentle care of the grapes from vine to bottle priority one. This care and dedication has pushed the small family operated Stonehedge to the forefront of California winemaking and a recognized name for exceptional quality.

Trefethen Vineyards  
Trefethen VineyardsConstructed in 1886 by a Scottish sea captain, Hamden McIntyre, our winery was originally known as Eshcol. McIntyre designed it as a gravity-flow system: a horse-drawn winch brought grapes to the third floor of the three-story structure for crushing; gravity carried the juice to the second floor for fermenting; and, eventually, the wine descended to the first floor for aging. Eshcol was among a number of wineries McIntyre designed during this period; the others were Greystone (now The Culinary Institute of America), Far Niente and Inglenook.

Whitford Cellars  
Whitford CellarsDunc and Pat Haynes are proud of Whitford's top notch wine making team. Since 1997, Ken Bernards, formerly with Trouchard, has been making award winning Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and since 2002, Syrah for Whitford. Ken's wife, Teresa, formerly with Domaine Carneros, ably assists. Rob Fischer joined the team in July of 2004 after receiving an enology degree from Fresno State. For harvest, when things really get hectic, Ken hires an intern from the "Communicating For Agriculture Exchange Program". So far we've been charmed by eager, hard workers from Spain and Chile. All work together to create the fine wines of Whitford Cellars.

ZD Wines  
ZD WinesBeginning in September and lasting throughout most of October, ZD's Chardonnay grapes are hand harvested and brought quickly to the winery, where they are crushed and pressed. Each vineyard lot is maintained separately. The juice is then cooled and put into 50-gallon oak barrels for its 100% barrel fermentation. Due to the cool temperature in ZD's cellars, the fermentation lasts about 6-8 weeks, whereas most barrel fermentations last about 3-6 days. This very slow, cool, fermentation is extremely important to the quality of ZD Chardonnay. It maintains the fruit and gives the wine a creamy, toasty character that is brought about from extended contact with the yeast as it is suspended in the fermenting wine. This cool temperature also inhibits a secondary (malo-lactic) fermentation, allowing ZD Chardonnay to maintain its natural acidity.
