| What is Port? |

| Port is a red fortified wine that orginiated in the Duoro Valley of Portugal. The name is protect by the European Union so that it can only be labeled Port if it was produced in Portugal, but other countries make it as well. The Duoro Region where Port is produced is the third oldest established and protected wine region in the world behind only Chianti and Tokaj. |

In 2000, the Cabral family purchased a property in Franz Valley with an old 4 acre vineyard - here is where our wine story begins. Joe began recovering the steep (45 degrees) vineyard that had originally been planted in Portuguese varietals, joined the home winemakers club and produced his first port. The Lava Vine brand was born in 2004 . . .
