Castello di Amorosa StarStarStarStar
Castello di AmorosaRising above the hills in the Napa Valley is Castello di Amorosa, which translates to the “castle of love” in Italian. Castello di Amorosa, an authentic-styled, 12th century Tuscan castle-winery complete with high walls and five defensive towers and over 30 acres of estate vineyards. It was built over a 15-year period by Dario Sattui, a fourth generation winemaker and owner of V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, California. The Wall Street Journal cited Castello di Amorosa as a “must-see destination,” and more recently, the Contra Costa Times included Castello di Amorosa as one of the top destination wineries in the country. After decades of research, planning and studying medieval castles in Italy and Europe, Sattui commenced building in 1994. The Castello evolved to include 121,000 square feet, 107 rooms, (of which 95 are used for winemaking or wine storage) 8,000 tons of hand-squared stone, 8 levels (4 above ground, 4 below) 900 linear feet of caves, a great hall with two-story Italian frescoes, a drawbridge and a moat.

Frank Family Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Approximately 20 acres of vines were planted on Winston Hill starting in1991. Cabernet Sauvignon is the primary variety, along with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Sangiovese. Through site specific vineyard management, several clonal selections are matched with the appropriate rootstocks. Extensive hand labor balances the vine canopy and maintains the yields to produce rich and concentrated wines. The soil consists of well-drained, volcanic deposits and sandstone. Due to its southwest exposure, Winston Hill has a high radiant value. Typical warm summer days give way to cool nights with soft mountain breezes. The vineyard has an average rainfall of 24-36 inches per year.

Madrigal Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Madrigal VineyardsThe Madrigal family originally came to California via Numarin Mexico in 1932. My grandparents boarded a train bound, or so they thought, for California. On a cold and snowy day the conductor told them it was time to get off and that they were in California. They were actually in Kansas and it was the middle of a cold and windy winter. My grandfather ended up having to work for the railroad for a few years until they saved enough money to continue on to California. When they arrived in California, they originally stopped in Azusa, a suburb of Los Angeles. My grandfather, not satisfied with his prospects in Azusa in '37, traveled north to join a cousin in a town called Calistoga. Convinced that a better life could be had here, he sent for his family and settled in a cabin that's a stone's throw from what is now Madrigal Estate.

Schramsberg StarStarStarStar
SchramsbergHugh Davies, President and Winemaker of Schramsberg, is devoted to carrying on his parent's vision: to create America's premier sparkling wines. His passion for constant refinement of vineyard sources and winemaking techniques is captured in each bottle. Our small winery spares no effort to create the complex bouquet, refreshing acidity and depth of flavors found in the finest of sparkling wines. Schramsberg grapes are sourced from 80 cool-climate vineyards located in four counties. In a century-old tradition rarely practiced today, the winemakers use barrel fermentation and barrel aging in the creation of our sparkling wines. After bottling, the wines are hand-stacked and hand-riddled in our historic Diamond Mountain caves. Our releases have been heralded as some of the best sparkling wines available in the world.

Storybook Mountain Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Storybook Mountain VineyardsClimate - in the broad context of temperature, precipitation, prevailing wind and storm patterns as well as exposure to the sun - is of crucial importance for optimum fruit development and thus the quality of a vineyard. Storybook Mountain is located at the top of the Napa Valley, on an eastern slope of the Mayacamas Range whose ridges separate Napa from Sonoma. This gives us the desired eastern exposure, an orientation we share with many of the greatest vineyards in Bordeaux and Burgundy. Adequately warm weather for ripening is rarely a problem in the Napa Valley - and certainly not for us. Open to the morning sun and providing an oblique angle to the hot afternoon sun for a growing day of even temperature, an easterly exposure helps avoid both the heat spikes and heat accumulation that can occur on a late summer afternoon.

Charles Krug Winery StarStarStarStar
The Charles Krug Winery, first in the Napa Valley and established in 1861, is owned and operated by the Peter Mondavi Family. Since 1943, three generations of the Peter Mondavi Family have been pioneers and innovators in the Napa Valley wine industry. Today the family continues their stewardship of 850 acres of estate land with organic and sustainable farming practices and state-of-the art winemaking techniques. Located one-and-a-half miles north of St. Helena, the Charles Krug Winery focuses production on lush red Bordeaux style blends, New Zealand style Sauvignon Blanc and classically crafted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. The Charles Krug Winery, first in the Napa Valley and established in 1861, is owned and operated by the Peter Mondavi Family. Joseph Phelps Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Joseph Phelps VineyardsFounded in 1972, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is an independent, estate-based winery located outside of St. Helena. Perched on a knoll in bucolic Spring Valley, the graceful redwood winery overlooks vineyard-studded hills, the town of St. Helena and the Mayacamas Mountains to the west. After years of studying the complex relationship between wine quality and place, and understanding the importance of "terroir," Phelps has developed estate-owned vineyards in the premiere growing regions of Stag's Leap, Rutherford, Oakville, Oak Knoll and the eastern foothills of Napa. In Sonoma County, an ambitious project was undertaken in 1999 to purchase land and develop vineyards along the western frontier of the Sonoma Coast, and today Phelps has 80 acres of Pinot Noir and 20 acres of Chardonnay planted in Freestone. A small winery in the midst of the Freestone vineyards is currently under construction.

Chase Cellars StarStarStarStar
Chase CellarsAt S. E. Chase Family Cellars, we have a deep appreciation for old vines. Planted in 1903, the vines are head pruned, dry-farmed and are planted on St. George rootstock. The gravely soil combined with a slight slope consistently produces the most exuberant and expressive Zinfandel grapes in the Napa Valley . These unique grapes create one of the most robust Zinfandels from the Napa Valley region. Our vineyard side tasting area allows you to enjoy our outstanding views while enjoying our latest releases. Sit under 135 year-old olive trees and enjoy the breeze. Bring along a picnic if you wish. We are open by appointment only so be sure to call or email first to arrange your vineyard tour and tasting.

Spottswoode Winery StarStarStarStar
Spottswoode WineryOur annual vertical tastings are something that all of us at the winery relish every year, as they provide us with a focused opportunity to re-visit our now two decades worth of Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon. Fascinating, as we never know quite what to anticipate from each vintage – it seems that we have all learned to toss out our expectations, and tasting the wines blind allows for objectivity and consistently results in lots of surprises. Whenever these tastings are mentioned in public situations they tend to elicit dreamy-eyed reactions and sighs from wine fans, who wish that they might also have annual opportunities to taste all of our vintages together. We feel lucky indeed!

Goosecross Cellars StarStarStarStar
Goosecross CellarsAt Goosecross Cellars, customers are our first priority in every facet of our winery, from how we craft our wines to our fun and friendly service in the tasting room. This extends beyond just selling wine. We sincerely care about establishing a long-term commitment and personal relationship with every customer. Winemaker Geoff Gorsuch (pronounced Jeff) crafts every wine with our customer's preferences in mind. This starts in the vineyard with sustainable farming practices without pesticides, and ends in the bottle with wines that reflect true varietal character. Our ultra-premium wines are approachable consistent and affordable, year after year. We also take pride in the fact that our wines are food friendly and complement a wide range of foods.

Elyse Wine Cellars StarStarStarStar
Elyse Wine CellarsWhat will you find in a bottle of Elyse or Jacob Franklin wine? I make wines that I want to sit down and enjoy – juicy, rich, voluptuous wines. I like a little oak, but I don’t want it to be overpowering – I want to taste the fruit. I love wines that pair well with food. A meal without wine is eating; a meal with wine is dining – it’s a conversation, an event. It’s what wine is about. When I make a wine, my tastes and techniques will influence the process, but what’s most important is the fruit. The fruit dictates what the wine will be. We’re fortunate to work with an amazing group of growers and vineyards, whose fruit keeps taking us to wonderful places. We started out making Zinfandel, then expanded into Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. No doubt those will continue to be the focus of our winemaking, but now we’ve made a tiny quantity of Chardonnay, and soon we’ll be releasing our first Pinot Noir. What wines we make after that will depend on the fruit that’s available, because I just can’t say no to wonderful fruit.

Quixote Winery StarStarStarStar
Quixote Winery We've spent decades working against the conventional wisdom of the Napa Valley. When Cabernet Sauvignon dominated the California wine industry, we passionately supported Petite Syrah. We still do. But a little cabernet is nice, too. We want to make good wine, not a good name. If our wine doesn't speak for itself, no signature will make it any better. Ours is a family-owned winery. As you can see, given the number of owners and the size of our production, we have a strictly enforced allocation system to ensure that customers can have a few bottles of Panza and Quixote to enjoy. Unlike many winemakers, Monticelli doesn't have concerns about leaving a “wine widow” at home. His wife Anna, whom he met at Davis , is the winemaker for Bryant Family Winery. “Wine governs our lives,” says Mario.

Madonna Estate StarStarStarStar
Madonna EstateMadonna Estate wines have been handcrafted by the Bartolucci family, Napa Valley winegrowers and winemakers for more than eighty years. They are created from 100 percent organically grown grapes, which are dry farmed on the Estate Vineyard. Located in the world renowned Carneros Region, the Bartolucci's take great pride in the wines they craft. Through great skill, elegance and care, Madonna Estate wines are styled to capture the best of the vintage, the vineyard, and the variety. In addition to organic farming, Andrea believes dry farming is the best method to ensure maximum quality and grape flavor. Using the dry farming method the newly planted vines are irrigated only until they create an extensive root system. After the roots become established, all irrigation lines are removed and the vines are left to fend for themselves.

Domaine Carneros StarStarStarStar
Domaine CarnerosDomaine Carneros in the heart of Carneros, is the California expression of the tradition and excellence of its founder, Champagne Taittinger. Established in 1987, Domaine Carneros is considered a regional landmark. Exquisite views of endless vineyard-covered hills are the perfect setting to savor our wines. The main château and terrace are open 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily.  The last service of the day is at 5:45 p.m.  We are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. All of our wines bear the Carneros Appellation, with 95% of our fruit coming from estate vineyards. In April 2008, we received organic certification of all Estate vineyards by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

Signorello Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Signorello VineyardsRay Signorello Jr. began his journey as winemaker and vineyard owner in the Napa Valley during the mid 1980's. Ray, born in San Francisco, California, moved to Vancouver, Canada where the Signorello family continues to maintain a home. Ray divides his time between Napa, San Francisco, Vancouver and business related travel. Ray's father, Ray Sr., initiated the vineyard project during the mid 1970's by purchasing the 100-acre estate located on the Silverado Trail in the beautiful Napa Valley. Ray Sr. worked side by side with Ray Jr., establishing the winery's reputation for excellence until his passing in the fall of 1998.

Trefethen Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Trefethen VineyardsConstructed in 1886 by a Scottish sea captain, Hamden McIntyre, our winery was originally known as Eshcol. McIntyre designed it as a gravity-flow system: a horse-drawn winch brought grapes to the third floor of the three-story structure for crushing; gravity carried the juice to the second floor for fermenting; and, eventually, the wine descended to the first floor for aging. Eshcol was among a number of wineries McIntyre designed during this period; the others were Greystone (now The Culinary Institute of America), Far Niente and Inglenook.

Silverado Vineyards StarStarStarStar
Silverado VineyardsThe Stags Leap District is one of the smallest, yet most renowned, wine growing regions in Napa Valley. Here, Silverado Vineyards has been quietly producing world-class wines from their state-of-the-art winery for over 20 years. With grapes sourced almost entirely from Silverado’s family-owned estate vineyards, these hand-crafted wines are created in small lots with extreme care. They express richness, elegance and age-worthiness. Silverado wines are unique – one-of-a-kind blends of location, philosophy and winemaking style. The Mediterranean-style stone winery, established in 1981, stands on a knoll above the Silverado Trail in the heart of the Stags Leap District. Silverado is a legendary name from the early mining days. Today it symbolizes the Miller family’s long term commitment to the future of Napa Valley wine.

Corison Wines StarStarStarStar
Corison WinesCathy Corison produces two limited-production Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons, hand-crafted without compromise from some of the finest vineyards in the Napa Valley. The fruit for the Corison Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the western benchland near Rutherford, where deep, stony alluvial soils promote ideal growing conditions for the Cabernet vine. Formerly noted as one of the great "virtual" Napa Valley wineries, Corison has now built a new barn/winery on route 29 between Rutherford and St. Helena. The winery is situated amidst the vines of Kronos Vineyard, which is the source of Corison's distinctive Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cuvaison Winery StarStarStarStar
Cuvaison WineryCuvaison Winery is situated on the historic Silverado Trail in northern Napa Valley. In 1969 Thomas Cotrell and Thomas Parkhill, both Silicon Valley engineers, founded Cuvaison with a 27-acre vineyard at the winery’s present location. New York publisher Oakleigh Thorne purchased the winery in 1974 and then appointed the Swiss-born Philip Togni as Winemaker. In 1979, the Schmidheiny family of Switzerland purchased Cuvaison as well as 400 acres of prime vineyard land in the Carneros region in southern Napa Valley. The fall of 1998 marked the purchase of the historic 170-acre Brandlin Ranch on Mt. Veeder.

Clos Pegase StarStarStarStar
Clos PegaseCan a winery elevate the craft of winemaking to a fine art? Of course it can. Can a winery dedicate itself as a temple to works of fine art? Why not? But can a winery that does one also achieve the other? Good question. Now, if you were to put that question to Bacchus, god of wine, mischief-maker and generally acknowledged originator of the practice of horsing around, we know just where he'd send you: straight to the horse's mouth. And not just any horse. He'd send you to Pegasus, the winged horse of ancient myth whose hooves brushed against the earth, unleashing the sacred spring of the muses. Lucky earth. That spring gave life to grapevines, and the wine that flowed from them inspired poetry and art in all who drank it.

Vincent Arroyo Winery StarStarStarStar
Vincent Arroyo WineryVincent Arroyo Winery produces over 6,000 cases from estate vineyards. Every year we make Chardonnay, Cabernet, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Sangiovese and a couple red blends – in fact, our dog even makes a wine! We consider Petite Sirah to be our signature wine, and develop those vineyards into several different bottlings – a “Napa Valley” Petite Sirah which is a blend our many Petite Sirah vineyards; 2 vineyard designated Petite Sirahs, Greenwood Ranch and Rattlesnake Acres; a Winemaker’s Reserve Petite Sirah which is barrel-aged for 34 months; and a Petite Sirah Port. Most of these wines are sold on a waiting-list basis.

Chateau Montelena StarStarStarStar
Chateau MontelenaWe defined the Chateau Montelena style in 1972 – fruit, first and foremost, balanced by an underlying structure of natural acidity for an elegant and balanced wine that provides both drinkability and ageability. Winemaking at Chateau Montelena is regarded as a continuous process that begins in the vineyard, which is why we use the term “winegrowing”. Exceptional wine can only be made with exceptional grapes.

Calistoga Cellars StarStarStarStar
Calistoga CellarsWithout friendship, wine is altogether one-dimensional. Something to wash down a meal. But to those who love wine and wine-making, friendship is their core inspiration. From the winery to the tasting room to the dinner party, hospitality, celebration, dialogue, graciousness, romance and social gathering all contribute equally to the experience that is wine. Friendship likely never before has been taken to such lengths in the wine making business as when the original partners from around the United States joined forces to create Calistoga Cellars. Not the typical story of abandoning the rat race to settle into an earth-bound lifestyle in a leafy little wine country hamlet, Calistoga Cellars instead is owned primarily by ambitious professionals who keep their day jobs, but contribute immeasurably to the winery's success.

Dutch Henry Winery StarStarStarStar
Dutch Henry WineryEstablished in 1992, Dutch Henry Winery is a small family-owned and operated winery in Napa Valley. Graeser Winery StarStarStarStar
Graeser WineryGraeser Winery Graeser Winery Estate on Diamond Mountain is an oasis of old Napa Valley charm. The picturesque hillside vineyards are planted to the classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our wines are a true reflection of this very special place with a relaxed, classic beauty that is timeless.

Charter Oak Winery StarStarStarStar
Charter Oak WineryCharter Oak Winery is a small boutique producer of one of the most exceptional world-class Zinfandels. Charter Oak wine is unfined and unfiltered. The grapes are fermented on natural yeast. I use tools crafted by my grandfather (Nonno in Italian) to punch down the cap three times a day. I work the must into a foaming lather. No one makes wine quite this way. We believe the secret to our success is the natural fermentation and the punch down of the cap with hand-made wooden tools, which is done religiously over and over. There is nothing quite as beautiful than to see the sun shining down on the purple grape juice as it bubbles to the top. I live for this and it nourishes my soul.

Heitz Wine Cellars StarStarStarStar
Heitz Wine CellarsWhen Heitz Cellars opened in 1961, the Napa Valley had fewer than twenty wineries. Today there are more than two hundred. The original winery on St. Helena Highway is still open to the public as a sales and tasting room for visitors and is a glimpse into the origins of Heitz Cellars. Within a few years Heitz Cellars had outgrown the original premises and purchased the present 160 acre residence and ranch on Taplin Road, a narrow fold in the hills just east of St. Helena. The home property was originally developed as a vineyard and winery in the 1880s by the Swiss-Italian family of Anton Rossi.

Chateau Boswell StarStarStarStar
Chateau BoswellAt Chateau Boswell we strive to be responsible to our community's ongoing dependence upon a strong environmental structure by being not only a sustainable agricultural property, but also a totally organic one. Our vineyards and landscaping are all maintained by hand labor, ours and our employees, and with this closeness to our land and fruit we have developed a very sensitive and attention to detail approach to the production of our hand crafted wines. The original Chateau Boswell vineyard was planted with one of the earliest French Cabernet Sauvignon clones brought to America.

Vineyard Twenty Nine StarStarStarStar
Vineyard Twenty Nine13,000 square feet of man-made cave space serves not only as a dramatic showplace for our wines, but provides precise regulation of temperature and humidity for aging each barrel and bottle. Too many factors can adversely affect a wine during the aging process--the wines' formative years, so to speak. The extreme care taken to keep our caves in optimal condition, both in terms of temperature regulation, and overall cleanliness, allow us to ensure that the these years are of pure benefit to the wine without the risk of exposure to elements which might be harmful to aroma and flavor.

Bell Wine Cellars StarStarStarStar
Bell Wine CellarsSituated off the beaten path, just south of Yountville, is an exquisite pale stone winery, shrouded by oak, bordered to the south by Hopper Slough, surrounded by vineyard and cloaked in quiet. After looking for twenty years, winemaker Anthony Bell and winegrower John Baritelle found the perfect place to produce the wines they have long dreamed of - limited production, hand crafted wines that showcase the concept of "terroir". Bell Wine Cellars has opened its doors to the public to share the beauty of the place, and the wine.

Ehlers Estate StarStarStarStar
Ehlers Estate's Vineyards are farmed biodynamically by Winemaker and Vineyard Manager Rudy Zuidema.
